How to Take Care of Your Dried Flowers 5 Tips
Alstroemeria and Butterflies
If you’ve gone through the trouble of drying a beautiful bouquet of flowers, like our Alstro & Butterflies, it’s important that you know how to take proper care of it in its dried state to ensure it stays beautiful and withstands the test of time.
1. Healthy Start
To give your dried flowers a healthy start, be sure they are completely dry before you display them. Any moisture remaining after the drying process will cause your flowers to rot. You’ll know your flowers are completely dry when they begin to take on a texture similar to tissue paper.

2. Fortify
Dried flowers are naturally brittle and delicate. You can give yours a little more strength by spraying them with two or three coats of hairspray. Be sure to use an unscented spray that will apply evenly and be careful to spray from a great enough distance that the force of the hairspray won’t damage the flowers.
3. Stay Away from the Sun
Direct sunlight is one of the worst things for flowers as they dry and after they’ve dried because it will damage their pigments and cause their colors to fade. While you need light to see the flowers, avoid displaying them in front of any windows.

4. Beat the Humidity
Moisture naturally present in flowers will damage dried flowers, and moisture that’s in the air can also damage them. While a little natural humidity won’t hurt anything, be careful not to over-expose your dried flowers by displaying them in a location with higher than normal humidity. For example, you shouldn’t display them in a bathroom with a shower.
5. Dust Carefully
Dried flowers can gather dust and part of keeping them vibrant and attractive is also keeping them clean. Dried flowers are too delicate to be tickled with a feather duster, but they can still be cleaned. To clear the dust from your dried flowers, use a hairdryer to blow it away. To clean dried flowers and avoid damaging them, set hairdryer to its lowest, cool setting.
How to Display Dried Flowers in Your Home
There are a variety of ways that you can use dried flowers to decorate your home. They’ll look lovely as a bouquet arranged in a pretty vase or pitcher, but they also make wonderful floral wreaths that can be hung above a mantel piece or in a bedroom. If you have dried flowers from a special occasion, such as a bridal bouquet, we recommend displaying them in a shadow box along with other mementos from your special day.
