Holidays are traditionally a time for celebration and reflection; some represent change and new beginnings while others observe individuals or groups of people who played important roles in defining the fabric of our nation. Perhaps no other holiday encompasses all of these ideas more so than Labor Day.

Labor Day is a holiday that marks the changing of the seasons – from the end of the traditional summer season and a time for children to go back to school. Labor Day means a day off work for many people, or a chance for one last summer picnic. For others, it means the start of football season, a change of wardrobe or a shopping excursion to take advantage of one of the busiest retail weekends of the year.

Perhaps most importantly, Labor Day is a celebration of the American worker. It is a day to recognize not only the strength, achievements and prosperity that we enjoy as a result of our own hard work, but also a salute to the incredible power and determination of accomplishments that can only achieved by working together.
